Providing an investment of time, thought and money to something that supports such an important human right is quite worthwhile. Healthcare is a fundamental human right, and having access to high level care in one’s own backyard is an offshoot of this belief. When I look at the all of things that had to go right for me to achieve key milestones in my life, it’s clear that the interest and contribution from others was fundamental to so many of them. My motivation to serve and give back to the community is inspired by my experience that philanthropy and public service are key drivers in promoting social unity and community strength. Plans are now in development for a comprehensive campaign, expected to include the modernization of key hospital facilities in both Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach. The Foundation also has been instrumental in obtaining resources needed to support the hospital’s COVID-19 response and helping Mission assemble the finest array of robotic surgery platforms to be found anywhere in Orange County. Since John’s arrival, Providence Mission Hospital Foundation has successfully completed fund-raising campaigns to launch the Judi and Bill Leonard Institute for Cancer Prevention, Treatment and Wellness and to expand Mission’s two emergency departments in Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo. Prior to Mission, John held senior leadership positions in fund raising, alumni relations, and public affairs at Providence Saint John’s Health Center Foundation in Santa Monica, Pepperdine University, and UCLA.
